  Public confidence in government is measured, in large part, by the performance of individual employees. It is gratifying to me, in coming so recently to the Department of Transportation, to find here the high levels of professional achievement and exceptional accomplishment reflected in the awards being presented at this ceremony. I congratulate the recipients of these awards for the acts of valor and outstanding performance they acknowledge. I challenge all members of the Department to exceptional performance in the year ahead in response to the urgent and compelling tasks before us.
