Abstract:

A brief study of airport ground traffic control surveillance parameters has been conducted. The study addressed the following questions by means of a set of simple experiments: (1) Can vehicle ID be displayed in a suitable format; (2) What size display is required by ground controllers and by local controllers if their surveillance requirements are to be met;(3) What effect does viewing distance have on the size of the display required; (4) What is the effect of update rate on the ability of controllers to extract velocity information.
