Abstract:

This report describes the results of a series of system demonstrations of a modified version of the ARTS III system (ADS2) which was developed to operate with target reports provided by the Mode S system. The demonstrations were conducted at the FAA Technical Center with field controllers from the Philadelphia ARTS III facility. The report contains a compilation of the controllers' opinions and comments on the operational characteristics of the new system. This demonstration cannot be considered a comprehensive test and evaluation effort; however, with regard to those system capabilities which were demonstrated, the controllers found no major technical or operational obstacles which would impact the system implementation in an operational environment.
