Abstract:The use of groundspeed in combination with airspeed has been considered and shown to be an effective aid 1n the execution of an approach and landing 1n a heavy jet transport airplane. A flight dynamics analysis shows that the response of such aircraft to sudden changes 1n headwind 1S quite sluggish, requiring more than 100 seconds for equilibrium conditions to be regained 1n the worst case.
