Abstract:As part of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Aging Aircraft Program, the FAA purchased a Boeing 747 to be used as a test bed aircraft for investigating aging mechanical and electrical systems. When retired, the aircraft was decommissioned in a way to preserve the functionality of the mechanical and electrical systems. The purpose of the assessment was to determine the condition of the mechanical systems on the airplane and to determine what would be required to make any nonworking systems functional. This report documents the results of this assessment. The assessment determined that most of the mechanical systems that are significant to the Aging Mechanical Systems Project are operational or are capable of easily being made operational.
