Abstract:Job Corps helps eligible young people ages 16 through 24 complete their high school education, trains them for meaningful careers, and assists them with obtaining employment. Students have access to room and board while they learn skills in specific training areas for up to 3 years. The Pittsburgh Job Corps created an 8-week highway construction program. Once participants complete the 8-week program, they can advance directly into the local laborers' apprenticeship programs. The Pittsburgh highway construction program was established based on discussions with the Pittsburgh Highway Construction Workforce Partnership Working Group. The Pittsburgh Job Corps also has training programs for heavy equipment operators and heavy construction equipment mechanics.
