Abstract:

This report describes the capabilities of the Rail Energy Cost Analysis Program (RECAP) and serves as a User's Manual providing the detailed information necessary to set up the input files to run RECAP and interpret the results. RECAP is an engineering economics model designed to be used in combination with a physical simulator of train operations, the Train Energy Model (TEM), to estimate the cost of providing rail transportation on a specific route and service basis. The TEM/RECAP combination is designed to aid individual railroads in evaluating alternative technologies and operating strategies.
