• Abstract:
  A statistical projection of traffic fatalities for the first 9 months of 2025 shows an estimated 27,365 people died in motor vehicle traffic crashes, a decrease of about 6.4 percent compared to the first 9 months of 2024, as shown in Table 1. The third quarter of 2025 represents the 14th consecutive quarterly decline in fatalities beginning with the second quarter of 2022. Preliminary data reported by the Federal Highway Administration shows that vehicle miles traveled in the first 9 months of 2025 increased by about 25.1 billion miles, or about a 1.0-percent increase.
