Abstract:

This study reports on the potential application of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in Oklahoma using advanced sensor computer, electronics, and communications technologies and management strategies. The study first discusses national initiatives, funding ITS strategic plans in other states, and general benefits of ITS. This is followed by an overview of a survey that was conducted in Oklahoma among potential stakeholders regarding the implementation of ITS. Recommendations and strategies that evolved from the survey are discussed. The study concludes with a discussion on the possible challenges and barriers affecting implementation of ITS in Oklahoma.
