• Abstract:
  The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) continues to use a variety of reclaimed and recycled materials in highway construction. Recycled materials are used in highway construction to supplement aggregates, concrete, hot-mix asphalt (HMA), steel, and sealants, as well as for soil modification and pavement markings. This report summarizes the materials used in 2023, along with specific reporting on the use of shingles, efforts to reduce the carbon footprint, and efforts to achieve cost savings by using recycled materials, as required by Illinois Public Act 097-0314.
