The purpose of this booklet is to bring forward basic, vital facts about the pedestrian safety problem and to present a means for considering various countermeasures that can help resolve it. The information contained in the following pages is based upon research recently conducted by the U.S. Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Included in this research were reviews and evaluations of current state and local pedestrian safety ordinances, regulations, laws, policies, procedures and methods.
