• Abstract:
  This product is intended to provide guidance to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) on the type of data that should be collected for new concrete structures and pavements. The information provided herein is based on research performed under TxDOT Project 0-4085, “Preventing Alkali-Silica Reaction and Delayed Ettringite Formation in New Concrete,” a 4 ½- year project, which was completed in August 2004 (see final project report for more detailed information). Since this research projected started in 1999, much progress has been made in better understanding the mechanisms behind alkali-silica reaction (ASR) and delayed ettringite formation (DEF), and guidelines have been developed related to appropriate test methods and specifications. Several of the main findings from TxDOT Project 0-4085 have already been implemented by TxDOT in the form of improved test methods and specifications for ASR and DEF.
