Abstract:This report covers a corrosion survey study as applied to underground members of highway structures of the Gulf Coastal Area of Texas, an area fifty to seventy-five miles wide extending from the Rio Grande River to the Louisiana state line. In seeking an answer to the question of whether or not serious corrosion of plain carbon steel pilings may be expected during the service life of fifty years or more reference is made to data of the State Board of Water Engineers, the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station, the United States Geodetic Survey, the United States Department of Agriculture, Corrosion Engineers of the Gulf Coast Industries and the technical literature.
