Abstract:This report describes the variability of oil and gas activities in Texas. The characteristics of drilling and production operations vary widely across the state. Conversations with persons involved in the oil and gas industry enabled the development of variability parameters which describe local variations in activity on a countywide basis. Six variability parameters were defined for each county which aid in the derivation of input data for the computer analysis procedure. A procedure was also developed to convert crude oil production into truck traffic. A detailed example illustrates the use of the variability parameters to establish site-specific input data for use in the Oil Field Damage Program. The computer program models pavement performance by calculating levels of pavement distress over time. This technique provides a basis for anticipating future maintenance and rehabilitation requirements for surface-treated pavements in oil or gas field areas.
