Abstract:Selected gravel in District 25 of the Texas State Department of Highways and Public Transportation has been identified and qualified for use on highways in that district from a skid-resistance standpoint. Techniques developed in this study are suitable for use in qualifying aggregates utilized by other districts under different traffic volumes and climatic conditions. The study method utilized in the study included both field data collection as well as an extensive evaluation phase. The field phase of this project was established to provide skid numbers at specific locations on the pavement sections selected for study. This technique allowed the engineers to evaluate the pavement section at the location of skid testing and to make other measurements that could be used for correlation studies with skid numbers.
