Abstract:In order to improve the resilience of the Nation’s critical infrastructure to GPS disruptions, the President issued Executive Order (EO) 13905 “Strengthening National Resilience through Responsible Use of Positioning, Navigation, and Timing Services,” in February 2020 to foster responsible use of PNT services. In accordance with Section 4(g) of EO 13905, the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) undertook a Pilot Program to develop critical infrastructure profiles for the transportation sector. The Department’s focus encompasses GPS jamming and spoofing in the rail mode, through a partnership between the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology (OST-R) and the Federal Rail Administration (FRA), as its next candidate for PNT Profile development.
