Abstract:Two Texas Highway Department type B prestressed concrete bridge girders were tested to determine their torsional strength. Applied torque, angle of twist and strains in the concrete were determined. The theoretical strength and torque-rotation relationships were calculated by classical elastic theory. Experimental and theoretical torque-rotation relationships were found to agree very closely. The theoretical torsional strength was on the average about 75 percent of the experimentally determined torsional strength.
