Center (Volpe Center), Acoustics Facility, in support of the Federal Aviation Administration’s

Office of Environment and Energy (AEE), has recently completed a study of a new method for

computing atmospheric absorption. This letter report presents the results of the study. Section 1 presents an introduction to the topic of atmospheric absorption as it relates to aircraft noise certification, along with the objective of the study. Section 2 discusses the evaluation procedure. Section 3 discusses the results of the evaluation. Sections 4 and 5 present conclusions and recommendations, respectively.
