Abstract:The scope of this research study was to extend the knowledge gained from previous studies on the durability of structural lightweight concrete, and to attempt to correlate (a) degree of pre-wetting of the synthetic lightweight coarse aggregate, (b) type of synthetic light: weight coarse aggregate, (c) compressive strength of lightweight concrete and (d) the freeze-thaw durability of lightweight concretes made with these aggregates; utilizing the results obtained from prior research, together with research carried out in this investigation. Concrete specimens made with selected synthetic coarse lightweight aggregates were subjected to freezing in air and thawing in water.
