• Abstract:
  The overall objective of the illumination research can be stated as follows: "The study of existing practices in continuous and safety lighting of highway facilities and the development of improved methods that will reduce glare, improve uniformity of illumination and offer greater safety to the highway users." Specifically, the objectives of the illumination research can be broken into the following: 1. To establish the most efficient and functional continuous lighting system design criteria for multi-lane freeway type facilities. 2. To investigate methods of illuminating interchanges (including high-level floodlighting) and to develop design criteria for interchange lighting.
