Abstract:
Many metropolitan areas have begun or are planning to implement traffic monitoring programs to meet the many demands for traffic data. The purpose of this project is to document a series of examples of urban traffic monitoring data collection programs in order to support the development of urban traffic monitoring databases and promote the upgrading of urban traffic monitoring programs. The Center for Transportation Information researched the status of traffic monitoring operations in urbanized areas of over 200,000 population by conducting telephone interviews with a number of staff from states, counties, cities, and metropolitan organizations responsible for traffic monitoring operations. The inquiries were used identify a number of areas to be studied in more detail. Tables, appendices.
