Abstract:The scope of this study is to provide information that will reliably describe the travel patterns of the interchange traffic of the Gulf Freeway in Houston, Texas during periods of peak traffic. The primary objective is to develop the travel patterns of the traffic that enters the Gulf Freeway from the Reveille Interchange to the Distribution System at Dowling Street. In particular, the study was designed to accomplish the following: (1) To establish the "travel corridor" limits, or zone of influence, of the Gulf Freeway; (2) To determine the trip lengths of the traffic entering the freeway in the study area; (3) To determine the routes used on the city street system to approach the Gulf Freeway; and (4) To determine the origins and destinations of the motorists who enter the freeway by one of the entrance ramps in the study area.
