Abstract:This report documents the results of a telephone survey of 9,714 Texans conducted in the Fall of 1987 to determine attitudes toward the Texas State Department of Highways and Public Transportation (SDHPT) and its operations. The survey was designed to assess the overall image of the SDHPT among the public, and more specifically to identify misconceptions, information deficiencies, and perceived strengths and weaknesses of the Department at District and State levels. Subject areas addressed by the survey and described and included in this report are: effectiveness of SDHPT, quality of Texas roadways, knowledge about funding for SDHPT, and opinions toward various activities of the SDHPT.
