Design procedures for flexible pavements are severely hampered by the lack of knowledge of the physical behavior of. roadway materials under repeated loadings. Recent repetitive triaxial research on clayey soils has done much to expand knowledge of their behavior but the physical behavior of granular materials under repeated loading has been largely ignored. While the desirability of testing triaxial compression specimens of granular roadway materials under repeated loading conditions may be evident I the development of necessary equipment for this task is rather formidable. The objective of this publication is to report on the design and performance of equipment for this purpose.
