Abstract:This report contains a brief overview of Project 7-2987 and its objectives, then lists the conclusions and recommendations of the demonstration project, the violation study, and the before-and-after study. This is followed by the presentation of four implementation action items, which include preparation of Report 2987-2F, the need for identification of issues involved in the mailing of citations, the use of automated enforcement to improve safety at highway-railroad grade crossings, and consideration of public education and appropriate fine values, as well as identification of sites with the greatest potential for reduction in violations.
