Abstract:This report describes methods to evaluate incremental damage on unsurfaced roads and flexible pavement roads due to additional solid waste vehicle hauls. Load equivalencies used to estimate damage are presented for nine solid waste vehicle types. Incremental damage due to solid waste vehicles is evaluated by estimating damage due to existing traffic and damage due to additional solid waste vehicles. Incremental damage costs are evaluated for several cases of additional solid waste vehicles on different roadway types. Incremental damage costs are estimated from cost data obtained from counties in South Dakota. A model is presented to estimate incremental damage and damage costs for solid waste vehicles and other heavy vehicles. The model is written in Microsoft Basic and runs on IBM PC-compatible computers with an 8088 or higher processor.
