Abstract:This report offers an organizational health assessment for the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) at this point in time. The assessment and its findings must be evaluated in terms of where the organization wants to be in fulfilling its mission to its employees and to the people of the State of South Dakota. Four objectives provided a solid foundation directing the activities and tasks undertaken to complete this study. These were: to measure the SDDOT's employees' perceptions and level of satisfaction regarding organizational health; to identify the SDDOT's organizational strengths and weaknesses; to evaluate progress in making desired changes in the SDDOT's organizational culture, through comparison of the current assessment with the baseline measurements of the first assessment in 1998; and to refine a survey instrument that can be used to periodically assess the SDDOT's organizational health.
