Abstract:A computer program, BMCOL 43, is presented which can efficiently analyze a beam-column subjected to movable static loads. The program is built around the computer simulation of a beam-column subjected to stationary loads which is described in Ref 1. The methods used in the program are such that a beam-column can be analyzed for any pattern of transverse loads that move across the member. These load patterns may be any diverse system of loadings such as a highway truck, a series of trucks, or possibly a train on a railroad structure. In addition, the effects of fixed loads can be included in the analysis. Furthermore, the effects of various changes in the support history (such as settlement of a support) can be studied. The results of an analysis may include (1) solutions for the member under fixed loads, (2) influence diagrams for movable-load patterns, and (3) envelopes of maximum values of deflection, bending moment, shear, and support reaction that occur due to the loading and support history.
