Ice Shear'" has been introduced as an alternative highway deicer. Ice Shear consists of a mixture of 1:1 molar ratio of sodium acetate and sodium and serves as a potentially efficient deicer causing little corrosive effect on metals or other surface structures. However, prior to the wide use of Ice Shear as a highway deicer. It is imperative to evaluate its potential impacts on the roadside environments; aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. In this study, the impacts of Ice Shear in natural settings were evaluated by performing selected laboratory tests: Biochemical Oxygen Demand test.
