Abstract:In recent years, the use of speed safety cameras (SSCs)—also referred to as speed camera enforcement or automated speed enforcement systems—has gained increased national attention and application in work zones. SSCs are a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) proven safety countermeasure and a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) 5-star countermeasure to help reduce speeds and crashes. Jurisdictions can use SSCs as part of a comprehensive speed management program to target speeding-related safety problems.
