During this research project, the consultant investigated how optimal dTIMS strategies on adjacent road segments can be combined into construction projects and modifications to dTIMS were made so that this process can be done both automatically and manually. The investigation of the process by which optimal strategies can be combined took the form of a questionnaire that was distributed to a group of experienced dTIMS users. The results of the questionnaire were used as a guide to the development of a process within dTIMS that would allow users to define a set of parameters, in decision tree format. that would result in the consolidation of pavement management segments. The consultant then enhanced dTIMS to include a function called Automatic Program Development. This function automatically goes through the list of selected strategies and determines which adjacent sections can be combined together into projects. To allow the user to manipulate the projects that are created, dTIMS was also enhanced to include a strip map feature, which visually displays the protects created alongside the optimal strategies. The strip map is a line diagram of a selected road that shows were the elements from the inventory file occur along the road.
