Abstract:On November 9, 2021, Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg announced the 2021 United States Aviation Climate Action Plan (2021 Action Plan). The 2021 Action Plan laid out a whole-of-government approach to achieve a goal of net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the U.S. aviation sector1 by 2050 (2050 goal). In addition to serving as the public-facing statement of the U.S. government’s plans to address aviation’s climate impact, this document served as the United States State Action Plan (State Action Plan), which is submitted to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) every three years. The United States provided an initial State Action Plan in 2012, as well as a revision in 2015.
