Abstract:

The first objective of this project was to evaluate the literature to gain a better understanding of the safety implications of commercial motor vehicle (CMV) operations by deaf and hard of hearing drivers. The second objective was to identify and document procedures and recommendations that can be safely and effectively used to train and test deaf and hard of hearing CMV drivers. This was accomplished through an evaluation of the literature, a review of driving requirements, and expert interviews.
