Abstract:For this fact sheet, rural and urban boundaries are determined by the State highway departments and approved by the Federal Highway Administration. The State highway departments use the boundaries decided by the Census Bureau. In this fact sheet for 2017, the information about rural and urban traffic fatalities is presented as follows: Overview; Environmental Characteristics; Speeding; Drivers; Alcohol; Restraint Use; Rollover Crashes; Nonoccupants; Fatalities by State. This fact sheet contains information on fatal motor vehicle crashes and fatalities, based on data from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS).
