Abstract:In 2022 there were 2,034 young drivers who died in traffic crashes, a 5-percent decrease from 2,133 in 2021. The number of licensed young drivers increased by 0.3 percent from 2021 to 2022. In 2022 there were an estimated 180,353 young drivers injured in traffic crashes, a decrease of 11 percent from 203,276 in 2021. The term young driver refers to a person 15 to 20 years old operating a motor vehicle. People in this age group generally obtain their licenses for the first time and many are under graduated driver licensing (GDL) programs as they learn driving skills.
