• Abstract:
  The Annual Report of the Maritime Administration (MARAD) for the fiscal year which ended on September 30, 1989, is submitted to the Congress in accordance with Section 208 of the Merchant Marine Act, 1936, as amended. It incorporates reports required by the Congress on the following topics: acquisition of obsolete vessels in exchange for vessel trade-in credit; war-risk insurance activities; scrapping or removal of obsolete vessels owned by the United States; and U.S-flag carriage of Government-sponsored cargoes. There were no reportable activities during FY 1989 involving the allocation of construction-and operational-differential subsidy to port ranges and the settlement of claims arising under the Suits in Admiralty Act.
