The report of the Maintenance Section of the Construction Division covers the period January 1 to December 31, 1939, and presents the maintenance status as of the latter date for highway projects constructed with Federal funds administered by the Public Roads Administration on which maintenance inspections are required. The report contains a brief summary of the procedure developed for a uniform standard of appraising maintenance and follow-up repair requirements for this class of highways as a result of conversations throughout the year, and also contains descriptions and illustrations of maintenance equipment and methods and practices developed by the State Highway Departments.
