Preliminary Material on Process Control Computer Software Functions
The functions of Process Control Computers (PCC) in a hump yard may be categorized by two points of view: (1) From geographical area of the yard, or (2) from the nature of the function. Geographically the PCC function may be divided into several areas, and similarly there are several listed functions. In this informal note, the material will be organized in order of yard geography, with only three areas discussed in detail: pre-crest, crest, and crest-to-master retarder. Operations beyond the master retarder, such as the control of group and tangent point retarders and yard switching control, are not addressed.
