Abstract:

Forty-three rubber-tired scrapers of various types and sizes were studied on eleven separate highway construction projects throughout the United States. These field studies were conducted in order to determine the productive capabilities of the machines under various conditions. Supplementary pusher studies were also conducted to aid in evaluating the scraper operations. Results of these field studies have produced findings of considerable interest which should assist contractors in better understanding the productive capabilities of their scraper fleet. Hopefully, this better understanding will be converted to increased efficiency and, subsequently, lower unit bid prices.
