Abstract:Kenn Bicknell, Manager of Policy, Research, and Library Services for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority Research Library & Archive, discusses how the library works to be “future-ready”. The agency has expanded the mobility agenda while reducing resources for a library that serves a big community. With limited staff and budget, and an increase in data and knowledge, the Metro Library set priorities to maximize its resources. Bicknell describes how implementing strategic directions with core services supports sustainability in libraries. Transformative initiatives such as collecting, curating, and disseminating news related to L.A. transportation have resulted in collaborations with other libraries. Digitization of the collection and then promoting historical assets helped built a sense of community across many disciplines.
