Abstract:The goal of this project is to develop an information technology system to help minimize the impact to first responders’ health during a transportation related HAZMAT incident. We will develop a dashboard prototype that integrates health and environmental data that is collected and transmitted using Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and technology. This data will allow the Incident Commander and Safety Officer to make strategic decisions to protect first responders and transportation workers. The prototype system is called REaCH – Real-Time Emergency Communication System for HAZMAT Incidents. REaCH will include real-time health monitoring of first responders and transportation workers through wearable devices that monitor exposure to hazardous materials. A user interface that presents a dashboard prototype with the integrated sensor data is the planned outcome. This is a multi-year project. This report presents the activities in the second year.
