Advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) technologies can positively impact large truck safety; however previous research indicates that barriers to ADAS technology adoption still exist within the trucking industry. Barriers such as awareness, acceptance, and uncertain return on investment (ROI), are likely hindering adoption. FMCSA launched a program, branded as Tech-Celerate Now, to accelerate adoption of ADAS technologies. Tech-Celerate Now encompassed further research into ADAS technology adoption barriers; a national outreach, educational, and awareness campaign; and data collection and analysis. This report documents the findings from Phase 1 of the program’s research and data analysis as well as the activities undertaken to increase awareness, understand perception, and measure program impacts. A comparison of pre- and post-outreach activity survey results shows a positive increase in awareness and adoption of certain ADAS technologies.
