Abstract:

In the design of highway bridges in Florida, glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) materials are starting to replace mild carbon steel as the basis for reinforcing structural concrete components. Whereas traditional steel rebar is susceptible to corrosion, GFRP rebar is not, and therefore the use of GFRP has the potential to reduce maintenance costs and mitigate the need for corrosion-related structural rehabilitation.
