Abstract:This manual, Volume III in a four-volume series of reports relating to water quality impacts of highway maintenance practices, is designed to aid State highway officials, planners, and local officials in the preparation of environmental impact statements, environmental assessments, and similar environmental documentation where required by Federal and State environmental legislation. Relevant environmental legislation is briefly discussed. Each of the six maintenance practices considered to be the most significant is fully described in terms of its potential for causing water quality impacts. Detailed methods are provided for predicting and assessing whether impacts from each of the six practices may be significant.
