Abstract:The subject report is the tenth in a series of annual summaries of fatal and injury accident data submitted by the States in Table TA-l. The form of the report has been changed. Highway systems were revised extensively during 1976, as required by the Federal-aid Highway Act of 1973, and a number of the States were unable to compile complete data for the new systems during the transition year. Because of the highway system revisions, most of the data in this report is not directly comparable to data reported for earlier years (1967-1975). There are two exceptions. First, Interstate System statistics are comparable to those previously reported as Interstate-Final. Second, since urban boundaries did not change substantially in 1976, State and national totals for rural and urban areas may be compared with previous totals.
