Abstract:The Volpe Center, in support of FAA, has collected acoustic data from multiple unmanned aircraft over the last few years in a series of measurement campaigns. With this expanding dataset, it is now possible to estimate the noise produced by various types of flight operations and test the validity of those methods. Of particular interest in the context of environmental analyses is the noise produced during takeoff operations. This paper describes the process of using hover noise measurement data including directivity patterns to estimate the noise generated during takeoff procedures for an unmanned aircraft and presents a comparative analysis of the results and actual measurements.
