Abstract:

A collection of data concerning the physical, operating, and performance characteristics of automobiles for the model years 1955, 1960, 1965, 1968, and 1970 to 1974. Data is to be added to the data base already established by DOT/TSC, for the 1975 model year automobiles. ; Information was primarily collected from published sources with extrapolation and correlations being made when raw data was not available. ; Vehicles are reported by model year and are grouped by manufacturer using production volume and fuel economy-dependent attributes - i.e.: engine displacement, weight, and transmission type as criteria to select representative vehicles. Models which are essentially duplicated by more than one division of a manufacturer - ie: Ford Maverick and Mercury Comet, are represented by a model in only one of the divisions. Characteristics are documented for more than 1000 automobiles representative of total United States sales of all domestic and imported automobiles for the model years indicated.
