Abstract:The United States Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration has initiated the CARMASM program to advance research and development of cooperative driving automation (CDA) to accelerate market readiness and deployment. CDA aims to improve the safety, traffic throughput, and energy efficiency of the transportation network by allowing road users and infrastructure to communicate and cooperate. CARMA StreetsSM is a component of the CARMA ecosystem that enables coordination among different transportation users. This component provides an interface for CDA participants to interact with the road infrastructure. CARMA Streets is also an edge-computing unit that improves the efficiency and performance of transportation systems management and operations strategies. This document presents a concept of operations for the CARMA Streets system to support its development and implementation.
