• Abstract:
  Fatalities as a result of traffic crashes on Florida roadways decreased to 3,365 in 2006 from 3,533 in 2005 **for the first time in more than 10 years traffic fatalities have decreased from the previous year; State Mileage Death Rate decreased to 1.65 deaths per 100 million vehicle miles traveled in 2006 (the lowest in state history) from 1.76 in 2005; Traffic fatalities of drivers and passengers not using seat belts, in belt equipped vehicles, decreased to 1,301 in 2006 from 1,444 in 2005; Alcohol related fatalities decreased to 1,099 in 2006 from 1,239 in 2005; Motorcyclist and passenger fatalities increased to 550 in 2006 from 477 in 2005; Bicyclist and passenger fatalities increased to 126 in 2006 from 119 in 2005; and Pedestrian fatalities decreased to 546 in 2006 from 576 in 2005.
