Abstract:
This Annual Statistical Report provides the basic characteristics of road accidents in 19 member states of
the European Union for the period 1997-2006, on the basis of data collected and processed in the CARE
database, the Community Road Accident Database with disaggregate data (Council Decision EEC 93/704
final).
The period 1997-2006 has been used in order to maximize the sample of data. However, data for some
countries and corresponding years were not yet available in the CARE database at the date of drafting this
report. As you can see in following table, five new countries (CZ, EE, HU, MT, PL) were included in 2006.
These countries were considered in the tables and figures, where no time line is used. For example if there
are comparisons with the year 1997 only EU-14 (the EU-15 excluding Germany) is used.
